Another UTA TRAX accident occurred Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah when a woman ran a red light at the intersection of 500 South and Main Street. According to Fox 13 News, the driver of the vehicle went through a red light and struck the front of a TRAX train. The momentum of her vehicle derailed the car of the train. No one in the vehicle was reported to have any injuries. The only injury came from a passenger on the train who complained of neck pain. Pedestrians waiting to board the train stood as witnesses to the accident. After seeing the accident, these witnesses ran to aid those involved. The police have said they intend to cite the woman for running the red light.
I give my best wishes for a speedy recovery to anyone that was injured.
Accidents from motorists running into TRAX trains can very often prove fatal. It’s remarkable that no fatalities were reported in this case. As congested as roads are in Salt Lake City, it is imperative that drivers pay careful attention to traffic lights and train signals. As a West Jordan accident lawyer, I’ve been very concerned about the high frequency of TRAX accidents we’ve been hearing about in the news. I’m still not sure whether to blame this on TRAX or the motoring public. In this case, however, I don’t see any fault on the part of UTA for this accident happening. The driver of the Hyundai was definitely at fault for this accident.
